Some reports suggest this strain was created by the legendary mycologist Paul Stamets, but he’s never publicly accepted credit for this unique mushroom.

There’s another story about the origin of Z Strain Spores in that a mysterious mycologist named “The Keeper,” who claims to be responsible for cultivating this strain. The controversy is that The Keeper would take established mushroom strains, rename them, and sell them online as their invented strain through ad.

According to a Reddit thread, The Keeper was caught when they used photos of established strains and forgot to change the names of the files when uploading them online under their new strain name.

What Is A Spore Print?

A Mushroom Spore Print is the first (or last!?) stage in the reproductive lifecycle of a fungus!

Once a mushroom fruiting body has reached maturiy, the cap is separated from the stipe and placed on aluminum foil.

After some time, the gills will release the spores held on the basidium, and they will fall to the foil!

How Do I Store Spore Prints?

Keep your spore prints in a cool, dark place. If you choose to keep them in the fridge, ensure they're in an airtight container so no baddies get in!

How Do I Use Spore Prints?

Scrape a tiny bit of the print - you only need a little bit, there are millions of spores in a single print - onto your microscope slide and check those beauties out!

When Will My Spore Print Ship?

Generally speaking, mushroom spore prints ships on the next shipping day. Check the calendar here!

What Comes In My Package?
